What we believe

As a Southern Baptist Church and a member of good standing with the SBC, First Baptist Church of Taylorsville adheres to the following beliefs:

The Bible is divinely inspired by God and is completely without error. It is totally true and trustworthy, revealing God's nature, authority, standards and holiness, and is the standard by which all things must be measured. All scripture testifies to Christ, who is the Son of God, Messiah.

God is the one and only God, infinite in holiness, who is the supreme being. He is all powerful and all knowing. God is Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God exists in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, which have always existed.

Man is special creation of God having been made in His own image, created male and female for the purpose of His glory and honor. Because of sin, all men are depraved of righteousness and therefore must be saved by faith in Christ for the forgiveness of sin and eternal life.

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man and is offered freely to any who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, whom by His own blood has made eternal redemption for the believer.

The Church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing both ordinances of Christ, the Lord's Supper and Baptism.

Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior, the believer's death to self, the burial of his old life, and the resurrection of his new life in Christ.

The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of Christ's Church, through the taking of the bread and juice of the vine, memorialize the death of Christ and His second coming.

The Lord's Day is the first day of the week and is set aside for regular observance of the Bible, prayer, worship and fellowship with other believers.

Missions and Evangelism are duties of every believer of Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations through the power and leading of the Holy Spirit.

Tithing is an obligation of every believer to support his/her local congregation to further advance the kingdom of God through local ministry and global missions. No one is required to tithe at any given time although tithes will be collected during both Sunday worship services.

The Family is a God-ordained institution of human society composed of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. The husband and wife are equal members of the same family reflecting the relationship God has with His children and the relationship of Christ and His bride, the Church.
